Our Muay-Thai Kickboxing:
This style of Muay Thai kickboxing originated from the Mejiro gym in Japan, and is widely regarded as one of the best kickboxing schools in the world. Some of the world’s best champions come from Mejiro gym, which has always been famous for developing the best strikers and training methods in the world. They tested the efficacy of the Mejiro style by fighting Muay Thai champions in Thailand – this led to the incorporation of Muay Thai techniques into the Mejiro style. The history of our style roots back to Sensei Kurosaki who was born in a traditional samurai family and joined the Yamuaguchi Karate style of Goju Rye, where he trained together with Mas Oyama in 1953.
Oyama and Sensei Kurosaki decided to make their own style and called it Kyokushin Kaikan. Mas Oyama was the one responsible for public relations. There is a lot of myth surrounding Mas Oyama but Sensei Kurosaki, who stayed in the background, was the instructor and a very good fighter. In 1976 Sensei Kurosaki broke away from Mas Oyama. He started his own dojo, the Mejiro Gym, (now called the Kurosaki Dojo), which quickly became and still is one of the leading Japanese kickboxing gyms in Japan. The gym produced incredible fighters that shocked the world including Toshio Fujiwara, the first non-Thai to win a national Muay Thai title belt in Bangkok, a fact that many older Thais still remember and respect about him. Fujiwara became the first ever non-Thai stadium champion in 1978 when he won the lightweight title at Rajadamnern Stadium.
Jan Plas of Holland also a student of the Kurosaki’s school opened his Mejiro Gym in Amsterdam, Holland in 1978. This school also produced many legendary Mauy Thai fighters, including Rob Kaman, nine time world Mauy Thai champion. Sam Marcellini studied under Rob Kaman, who is the most well-known “Mejiro Style” champion. Sam Marcellini is the first person ever to become a certified instructor under Rob Kaman in the US.
