BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

This style focuses on grappling, which is the process of neutralizing an opponent’s attack using control holds, strategic body positioning, joint manipulation and other submission techniques, rather than strikes. Students learn to utilize leverage, timing and technique – rather than strength – so that small individuals can beat larger opponents. Today most Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors focus almost entirely on the tournament techniques, many times leading practitioners to master and practice techniques that are not the best choice in a real self-defense situation. Our instructor, Sam Marcellini was a direct student of Royce Gracie and Grandmaster Helio Gracie (the co-founder of what is known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) and teaches a style that focuses on self-defense.

KUNG-FU (for children)

Shorin Kung-Fu was developed by Grandmaster Brigham, as a synthesis of the martial arts he mastered during decades of training throughout Asia. Shorin Kung-Fu combines inner power, effective technique and graceful movement in a singular, elegant art. Shorin Kung-Fu teaches, first and foremost, self-control, a key element in peaceful resolution of conflict. At the same time, students learn how to protect themselves effectively, should it ever become necessary. Shorin Kung-Fu believes the martial arts are a way of life, building not only a strong body, but a sound mind and good character.Chief Instructor Sam Marcellini combines the techniques from Muay Thai Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kung-Fu to provide the most practical and effective training for the students.

MUAY THAI KICKBOXING

Learn the famous style of Muay Thai Kickboxing developed in Mejiro gym, producer of many legendary world champions such as Toshio Fujiwara, (the first non-Thai Stadium champion in Thailand) and Rob Kaman, (Nine-Time World Muay Thai Kickboxing Champion), who are considered by many experts to be some of the greatest Muay Thai Kickboxers of all time. Sam Marcellini trained with Rob Kaman extensively and was the first person ever to get certified under him in the US. While most kickboxing gyms mainly focus on bag work, pad work, and uncontrolled sparring, our students do many one-on-one drills to develop defense and counter-attack reflexes. This training method develops footwork, timing, and proper application of techniques in our safe and controlled environment. This method is very efficient for developing true self-defense skills, and the reflexes developed will last a lifetime.
